여기서 확인해볼 수 있다. hidden-funding.pages.dev

With an unexpected teaching offer coming in, the first half of 2026 — which felt like the peak of juggling many things at once — has now completely passed. University teaching, research, and running Emotionography. I've walked through these six months carrying three separate pillars.

At Emotionography, the app and web development slowed down over the past two years. In the meantime, as I met with clients, taught, and studied, my thinking changed a great deal. So at one point I even found myself wondering, "Is there really much meaning in seeing the development through to completion?" Paradoxically, it was precisely that experience that led me to seriously learn vibe coding all this time. Now I've reached the point where I can build up to an MVP on my own, and finish it while learning from the developer I work with.

University teaching was hard to turn down because it's a stable income. And I'm grateful that I've been able to save all of it. As for research — it's partly under contract, but also, for the sake of Emotionography and because of my identity as a researcher, I intend to keep at it faithfully.

The Place Where I Was Emotionally Shaken

There were several things that affected me emotionally as well. No matter that I'm a doctor of psychotherapy — when my own vulnerabilities are touched, it isn't easy. I've been sorting it out well, sharing my heart with the good friends around me. In particular, there was something involving my family; that's something I'd like to reflect on separately.

Over the past two years — two government-funded projects, two rounds of development, and so on — I'm still working out "what have I actually done, and what have I learned?" To put it briefly: I went through trial and error, and within that trial and error, I seem to be moving, little by little, more toward the way that works.

Something Even I Can't Explain

In the midst of all this, there's one thing that even I can't explain. I came to see that there's a demand for consulting on research-grant proposals, and along with that, I ended up completing an entire book on research-grant proposal strategy. This was something that arose spontaneously — I hadn't even considered turning it into a business, nor had I sensed the possibility. Alongside that, I put together a simple version of a "Find Research Funding" website — a service I'd wanted for myself — and I'm now gauging the demand.

On Becoming a Tree

I wanted to close out the first half of the year by going to visit a friend I've been close with since middle school. Back in middle school, my aunt read our four pillars [saju] and said that if the two of us combined, we'd become a tree. The reading got a lot of things wrong, but my friend and I still believe this one. When I was studying in the U.S., during the hardest stretch of a trip home to Korea over a break, I met up with my friend for a little while. A pizza place somewhere in Gangnam. I was eating pizza with my friend, and I cried. Because it was so comforting.

And so, setting down all my thoughts and plans — though I couldn't set down the work; even in Tokyo, I always worked in the mornings at the café in front of the hotel — I just let my heart be, and stayed within the flowing time together with my friend, and with my friend's baby, whom I met for the first time.

Within that time, there was a single wish that rose up in my heart.

I want to create a new form out of what I've learned.

And along with that wish came a fear. A fear born of the things I started and left unfinished, of my own lack of stamina. The worry: what if I start and then quit again? For now, I'm going to leave that feeling be. Until the will rises up within me on its own. Rather than forcing myself to overcome the fear, holding it while not rushing to set the stage — that, too, was one of the "ways that work" these past six months taught me.

Things I Think I Did Well

There are things this first half of the year that I truly think I did well.

First, I wrote a great deal. The book we'll use as our textbook, the book on how to get selected for research proposals, and academic papers too. When I run the data-gathering process through AI, the pace of research becomes so much faster. With the research tracker I built in Notion, I could keep tabs on the status of my research, so even while running several pipelines in my head at once, I didn't drown in the complexity.

Second, I started kendo. My kendo teacher — a woman with a wonderfully bracing, no-nonsense style — leaves me feeling that my stress has melted away after every session.

Third, I've been doing personal training at the gym too. Ah, going every week is really not easy. Because it's no fun.

The Second Half, Toward the Way That Works

Right now, I'm working on organizing all of Emotionography's records from the past two years, wrapping up the things I've set in motion, and putting my plans into action. In the second half, I intend to cut back on teaching in earnest and focus on these things.

Three things matter especially. First, preparing the book to be published under Emotionography. Second, running Emotionography. Third, the mental-care service for corporate organizations.

To reach these goals, I need a bit more "나댐" [putting myself out there — self-assertion, unabashedly stepping forward]. The reflection on the second half should be a reflection on 나댐. ^^
